Add your privacy policy link
in five minutes

This is the only change you make to your website for your hosted privacy policy. You do it once. After that we keep the policy current, including when the rules change, and you never touch it again.

1. COPY

Copy the privacy policy link from the email we sent you.

2. PASTE

Put it on the "Privacy Policy" link in your website footer.

3. CHECK

Open your live site and click it to make sure it works.

Already have a Privacy Policy link in your footer? Just change where it points. Don't have one? Add a new link called "Privacy Policy".

PICK YOUR WEBSITE BUILDER
Wix
  1. Log in to Wix and open your site in the Editor.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of any page. The footer is the same on every page.
  3. Click the text that says "Privacy Policy". If there isn't one, add a text box and type "Privacy Policy".
  4. Highlight the words, then click the Link icon (it looks like a chain).
  5. Choose Web address and paste your link.
  6. Click Done, then Publish (top right).

Links don't work inside the Editor, so test it on your live site.

Squarespace
  1. Log in to Squarespace, open your site and click Edit.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page, hover over the footer and click Edit Footer.
  3. Click the text block with "Privacy Policy" in it. If there isn't one, add a text block and type "Privacy Policy".
  4. Highlight the words and click the Link icon.
  5. Paste your link and click Apply (or press Enter).
  6. Click Done, then Save (top left).
Shopify
  1. Log in to your Shopify admin.
  2. Go to Content then Menus. (In older admins this is Online Store then Navigation.)
  3. Open your Footer menu.
  4. If there's a "Privacy Policy" item, click it. If not, click Add menu item and name it "Privacy Policy".
  5. In the Link box, delete what's there and paste your link.
  6. Click Save (or Save menu).

Shopify also shows a privacy policy at checkout from Settings, then Policies. You can leave that as it is, or paste our policy wording there too.

WordPress

Newer themes (with Appearance, then Editor):

  1. In your dashboard go to Appearance then Editor.
  2. Click into your home page, scroll to the footer and click the "Privacy Policy" link. If there isn't one, add a Paragraph block and type "Privacy Policy".
  3. Highlight the words, click the Link icon, and paste your link.
  4. Click Save (top right) and confirm.

Older themes (with Appearance, then Menus):

  1. Go to Appearance then Menus, and pick your footer menu from the dropdown.
  2. Under Custom Links, paste your link in URL and type "Privacy Policy" as the Link Text.
  3. Click Add to Menu. If an old Privacy Policy item is there, open it and click Remove.
  4. Click Save Menu.

If your footer is built with a page builder like Elementor or Divi, open the footer template in that builder and change the link the same way.

Someone else manages my website

Send this to your web developer or whoever looks after your site. It takes them a few minutes. Paste your link where it says [PASTE YOUR LINK HERE].

I'm not sure what my website is built with
  1. Check your email for invoices from Wix, Squarespace, Shopify or a web hosting company. That's usually the answer.
  2. If you log in somewhere to change your website, the name on that login page is your builder.
  3. Still not sure? Email us your website address and we'll tell you.

Check it worked

Open your website in a normal browser window (not the editor), scroll to the footer and click Privacy Policy. It should open your new VeracityGate-hosted policy. Check it on your phone too.

That's it. We'll pick it up on your next monthly re-check.

Do I copy the policy text onto my site?

No. Link to it, don't copy it. Because the policy stays on our servers, we can update the wording when the rules change and your site always shows the latest version. A copied version would go out of date.

Do I need a developer?

Usually not. Changing a footer link is one of the simplest edits in any website builder. If someone else built or manages your site, use the ready-made email above.

Stuck? Email us your website address and what you see, and we'll talk you through it.
